John J. Shea III, M.D. is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy ('68). He received his B.S. cum laude from Tulane University ('73). He received the Bronze Medal for excellence in head and neck anatomy after three years of study at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland ('76). At graduation from Tulane School of Medicine ('80), Dr. Shea III was awarded the James F. McLaurin Gold Medal for outstanding achievement in otolaryngology.

After completing General Surgery internship at Ochsner Foundation Hospital (New Orleans, '81), Dr. Shea III capped a distinguished ENT residency at Tulane Affiliated Hospitals by becoming Chief Resident at Charity Hospital ('84). Selected from over 200 applicants nationwide, Dr. Shea III served as one of three Clinical Fellows In Otology at the world-renowned House Ear Institute (1984-1985).

Dr. Shea III was Board Certified in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery by the American Board of Otolaryngology in 1985, after which he was elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the American Neurotology Society, and the American College of Surgeons.
